To conduct import of any commercial cargo into the UAE, it is mandatory to obtain a commercial trade license. This license ensures compliance with local regulations for import/export procedures. Professional licenses, service licenses, etc may not be eligible for import / export activities.

Bill of Lading / Air Way Bill

A Bill of Lading (B/L) is a legal document issued by the shipping / carrier agency, serving as receipt, contract, and document of title for the transportation of goods. It outlines the terms and conditions of the transportation agreement between the shipper and the carrier, providing essential information for the movement of cargo from the point of origin to the final destination. A Seaway Bill  or a telex released (surrendered) Bill of Lading is acceptable in the UAE for clearance purposes.

An air waybill (AWB)  is a receipt issued by an international airline for goods as an evidence of the contract of carriage.

Invoice / Packing list / Certificate of Origin

An invoice and packing list issued and endorsed by the shipper play crucial roles in clearing from customs. An invoice is a commercial document issued by a seller, relating to a sale transaction and indicating the products, quantities, origin, and the prices for products the seller had provided the buyer.

The packing list provides a detailed list of the contents of a shipment. It includes information about the packaging, such as the item, type of packaging, weight, dimensions, and any special handling instructions.

A Certificate of Origin is a document issued by a government authorized body or chamber of commerce at origin, that certifies the country of origin of goods being exported. If the country of origin is mentioned on the invoice, you do not require a separate certificate of origin in case of general cargo.
